WILL INFLATION RETURN after the pandemic?
Let's welcome in the new year with a little outlook on what inflation may look like come post-pandemic. The vaccines have been released and are going to continue coming into Canada which means the pandemic could be coming to an end soon. Once everything is said and done, what's going to happen with our economy?
One thing I never understood is why Canada aims to maintain a CPI inflation rate of 2%, yet house prices continue to grow wildly out of control. Not just real estate, the price of gold, stocks, cryptocurrencies, and other assets have been going through the roof for the past two decades, despite major economic events (that in hindsight look like minor blips). Why is this?
The Consumer Price Index says one thing, but asset prices say another thing. So, the big question is: will inflation return once the pandemic is over?
